Goal statuses
Create, rename, recolour, reorder and delete the statuses used by every goal of your company in Goals › Statuses.
Goal statuses are the workflow labels shown on every goal (for example Not started, In progress, Completed). They appear as coloured tags on goals, as columns of the Kanban board and as filter values. Each company has its own list, managed by admins in Goals › Statuses.
Before you start
- Creating, editing, reordering and deleting statuses is reserved for Admins and Super admins. Scoped admins can open the page but only view the list.
- Statuses are independent from the goal's indicator: a goal can reach its goal value while its status is still "In progress", and vice versa.
Default statuses
Every company starts with three statuses:
| Position | Status | Colour |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Not started | Grey |
| 2 | In progress | Orange |
| 3 | Completed | Green |
The first status of the list is automatically given to every new goal. Reorder the list if you want new goals to start with another status.
Open the settings
- In the sidebar, go to Goals › Statuses. The page reads "Configure the Goals app for your company."
- The Goal statuses section lists each status with its colour and the number of goals that use it ("{count} goals use this status"). "Statuses appear on every goal — Kanban columns, table cells and filters. Drag to reorder."
Create a status
- Click New status (or Create your first status if the list is empty).
- Under Label, type the Status label* (for example "On hold").
- Under Color, choose a colour: Grey, Blue, Green, Red, Purple, Orange, Teal or Pink.
- Check the Preview, then click Create.
The new status is added at the end of the list and becomes available on every goal immediately.
Edit a status
- Open the three-dot menu of the status and choose Edit.
- Change the label or colour in Edit status.
- Click Save.
The change applies to every goal using this status.
Reorder statuses
Drag a status by its handle (dotted icon on the left) and drop it at its new position. The order is used in the status picker on goals and for the Kanban columns, and the first status becomes the default for new goals.
Delete a status
- Open the three-dot menu of the status and choose Delete.
- Confirm in "Delete status?": "The "{label}" status will be removed from your Goals app."
Goals that used this status are not deleted: they simply have no status any more. They show Not set in lists, No status selected on the goal page, and appear in the No status column of the Kanban board.
Important: deleting a status can't be undone. If you only want to rename it, use Edit instead.
Common questions
Can I have different statuses per team?
No. The status list is shared by the whole company.
Does moving a goal to Completed mark it as achieved?
No. "Achieved" is based on the indicator reaching its goal value. The status is a separate label that people set manually.
I deleted all statuses. What happens to new goals?
New goals are created with no status. Create a status again to use statuses on goals.
Are status names translated?
As long as the three default statuses keep their original names, goals display them in each user's language. Statuses you create or rename are displayed exactly as you typed them.
