Goals and skills reviews

Goals are connected to the Skills module: a reviewer can turn a finished skills review into a goal for the reviewee, goals can be linked to the review cycles they relate to, and those goals are shown again as context in the next reviews. This page explains each connection.

Create a goal from a submitted review

When a reviewer submits a skills review (see Answer a skills review), the answers are locked and a Congratulations ! window appears: "Review submitted successfully, your answers are locked. Want to turn this review into a goal for them? It gets its own owner, deadline and follow-up."

1. Click Create a goal (or Back to reviews to skip).
2. The New Goal wizard opens with:
   • the reviewee as assignee (locked);
   • you as responsible by default (you can change it);
   • the review's cycle already set as a related item.
3. Choose Start from scratch or Use existing template and complete the wizard as described in Create a goal.
4. Click Create. The reviewee is notified.

If you closed the window, you can come back later: open the submitted review and click the Create a goal button at the bottom of the answers.

Create a goal from the review cycle matrix

In a review cycle's matrix view, clicking a reviewee opens the Analysis details panel (see Results and exports). Click Create new goal to open the same wizard with this reviewee as assignee and this cycle as related item.

Link a goal to review cycles (related items)

A goal can be linked to one or several skills review cycles. Linked cycles appear as chips under Related at the top of the goal page.

1. Open the three-dot menu of a goal (goal page, My Goals or Team Goals) and choose Set related items.
2. Select one or several cycles. Only cycles in which the goal's assignee was reviewed are offered, and deleted cycles are excluded.
3. Click Save. "Related items updated successfully." confirms it, and the change is logged in the goal's history (Related items updated).

To remove a link, open Set related items again, remove the cycle and click Save.

From the review side, the Analysis details panel of a reviewee shows a Related block with the goals linked to that cycle, and an Edit related button to choose which of the reviewee's goals are linked.

Goals from previous reviews

When a reviewer opens a review, a From previous reviews block shows "What was asked of this person last time. Read-only here.": the goals linked to this person's earlier review cycles. It helps the reviewer start from what was agreed before.

Opening a related item

On the goal page, a related chip with an external-link icon can be clicked to open the cycle or campaign. Review cycles can only be opened by manager creators and above; for other users (for example the assignee) the chip is informational.

If a linked cycle is deleted, its chip disappears from the goal; the goal itself isn't affected.

Common questions

I submitted a review but didn't see the Create a goal button.

The button only appears when the Goals module is enabled and the review is submitted (locked). It isn't shown in the "all answers" view of a review, and it is disabled when the review belongs to a deleted cycle.

Why isn't my cycle listed in Set related items?

Only cycles in which the goal's assignee is a reviewee are listed. Check that the person was part of that cycle and that the cycle isn't deleted.

Can I link a goal to an interview campaign?

Interview campaign links can appear on goals, but the Set related items picker currently only lists skills review cycles.

Can I create goals from an interview?

Not directly from the interview form. Create the goal from Goals (for example Team Goals › New Goal) after the interview.
